After a video of Miss Uganda Natasha Nyonyozi visiting the Kiteezi landfill appeared, she became the focus of a social media frenzy and has been getting fiercely attacked.
Natasha was there to talk about the recent disaster where a pile of trash collapsed and buried buildings and people beneath it. She was dressed in full Miss Uganda regalia, complete with crown. There are currently over 35 people missing from the tragic incident, which has already claimed 30 lives. In the video, Natasha Nyonyozi discussed her initiative to help the victims of the waste tragedy through Miss Uganda and the Red Cross.
However, a lot of people online criticized her look and the time of her visit, viewing it as more of a publicity gimmick than a sincere gesture of kindness. Critics contended that, considering the serious nature of the occasion, her decision to don the entire Miss Uganda ensemble was improper.
Online comments have been divided; while some have praised her for drawing attention to the tragedy, others have questioned her intentions. X (formerly known as Twitter) was where some users expressed their opinions:
“Ugandans are always focusing on unimportant things but not the message. The people who caused this are seated comfortably in their offices but it’s the Miss Uganda to be blamed. Perhaps she’s being abused because she’s from the West,” one of the social media users wrote on X.
“You don’t go visiting poor people looking like Napoleon’s wife with shades on ?So you don’t see their misery? You always gotta fit in ,be relatable!! Should enroll for my public relations masters ASAP I charge y’all,” a social media user commented on the video.
“Miss Uganda please we already know you are miss Uganda, no hate but next time leave that crown at home people are looking for dead bodies not beautiful bodies,” went another.
However, there were others who defended her saying that this is how the brand handles its matters. Natasha Nyonyozi was crowned Miss Uganda 2024 last month.
